Summer 2025

August is coming to an end. It has been a hot summer and we have had many days when we just relaxed and floated in our local pool.  Time continues to fly by so quickly and we are grateful for the time we have to spend with our families and our friends who are like family to us. Visits have gone both ways, with time together at our home and at the homes of so many that we treasure. Here is a timeline of some of our summer doings!

Kip's New Home

We had a great time visiting with Kip and Vinod at their newly renovated home in New York. Kip did an amazing job of designing the renovation and the added rooms to meld with the original 19th century farmhouse. I love the flow of this house, the decorating and the library, with its cool breezes and flowing curtains. And of course, I love the pool. Chris was a huge help to Kip in putting in the finishing touches. Here are a few shots of us with some special relatives.

Visits to Boston and Maine

We went to New England twice this summer. The first time in June  to coincide with Chris' 50th college reunion in Lewiston, ME. He is a proud alum of Bates College and had a great time meeting new friends and visiting with old friends, some he had not seen since he left college 50 years ago.
Wendy enjoyed a long weekend with our good friend, Joanne. We visited, watched movies, spent time with her son, Michael and had a chance to get chocolate martinis! Yum.
We went back in August to help surprise Joanne on her 75th birthday! What fun we had at that event! We had the bonus honor of attending the promotion ceremony for Joanne's son Michael, as he was pinned by his daughter, becoming a Lieutenant in the police force for Revere, MA. Congratulations, Michael!

And we had the added delight of a few days with our good friends, Carol and Ralph at their place in Maine. As usual, it was good eating, good reading and wonderful conversations with friends on their deck overlooking the Sheepscot River on South Shore Island. What a life!

We wrote new lyrics to Sister Golden Hair by the band America to celebrate our sister Golden Hair on the anniversary of her birth as well as the 50th anniversary of our meeting in Korea. Here is a link to our rendition of this song. Sister Golden Hair

Trip to the Beach

We were happy to spend a week at the beach with daughter, Lily (and her fiancé, Mike), grandson, Wes and our good friend Margarita and her kids. All of these along with our friends, Rosie and Yitzy who own the house we rented. (By the way, this is a wonderful beach rental and if you would like more details, just let me know, I'll hook you up!) We didn't take too many picture, but here are a few!

Visitors from Baltimore

How blessed we were to have our friend, Laila and her two girls visit us again this summer. We love these girls and have so much fun with them when they visit. I hope they come back every summer!

Summer Fun with Beautiful (the Musical) and Beautiful Friends

We made a quick trip to West Virginia to see a local production of the Musical Beautiful and were joined by our friends from our former days in Mebane. After living in Atlanta, John and Deb are back in NC, living in Lenoir and we were so happy to get to spend some quality time with them. While in WV, we visited the Greenbriar Inn, couldn't cough up the big bucks to stay there, so we just visited and pretended we belonged!

Overall, it has been a busy, but delightful summer with days spent on our friend's farm (mostly Chris) and helping out with Vaction Bible School (mostly Wendy) as well as plenty of trips to our  pool where we lounge in the water and out, reading and listening to music/news. We are blessed to have this life. And we are blessed to have you in our lives!

  1. Enjoyed this blog so much! The trip to W Virgina was certainly a highlight in our summer not only because the musical was great but doing everything with you two. Can’t wait for our next time with you!

  2. hi Wendy and Chris. Thanks for including me in this thread. It’s great to read about how you’re doing. I’ve been to London and Edinburgh myself, and I love them. I hope you come out to Arizona again soon. This is Jim Mitchell by the way. Looks like a lot of the comments come through as anonymous.
