Trip to the UK

Wendy is getting ready for a trip to England and Scotland along with family friend and cleaning lady, Laura Rice. Check in here over the next two weeks if you are interested in the sights and adventures of these two intrepid travelers. We will try to update every few days, beginning on April 29.

Our trip has begun! Uneventful flight to London, subway, bus and taxi to hotel in Bath. So far we have explored Bath on foot and bus, visited Jane Austen Center, Roman Baths and the Bath Abbey. We’ve had glorious weather and excellent food. Heading back to London tomorrow. (May 1). Stay tuned for updates.

We are now in London and having a great time  too busy to post much but here are a few highlights

Charlie Chaplin in the the park

The Tower of London

And our favorite, right next to our hotel, the Tower Bridge

London was great fun  we visited the Tower of London, saw a play, went to a comedy club, did a river cruise and visited the Greenwich Time Ball where east meets west and time begins. High above the city of London

Then we were off to Glasgow, Scotland. Here are a few highlights of our time there.

Riding the night train from London to Glasgow  a bit of an adventure but not exactly restful

A fun trip to Loch Lomand and Stirling Castle  a little side stop to visit with West Highland Cows and many, many, many sheep!

We visited the Kelvingrove Museum and had high English Tea on our first day in Glasgow. Both were great experiences.

Here is a display of the Floating Heads installation  from the museum. Quite fascinating! https://mymodernmet.com/floating-heads-10-pics/

And our tea!

We left Glasgow in Wednesday morning for a five hour trek that included two bus rides and one ferry ride. The second bus ride was only 45 minutes but it was in the Isle of Mull from Craignure to Tobermory. While in Tobermory we enjoyed beautiful cool, sunny days, great seafood and a boat ride in the harbor. Tobermory is largely a farming community with a heavy dose of tourism. It is known for the colorful homes and businesses that line the harbor.

Returning from Mull, we traced backwards the two buses and one ferry to spend one last day in Glasgow. Glasgow was a surprise to us. We loves this lively city, saw lots of sites and enjoyed our interactions with the Glaswegians that we met. On our last day, we walked over to the Glasgow Cathedral, a beautiful Gothic Cathedral that was built over a period of 350 years, beginning in 1136. Here are a few pictures of the cathedral and the negropolis behind it.

We arrived in Edinburgh on Saturday, May 10 and enjoyed an open air dinner at the Grassmarket, just another beautiful day in the low 70s, unusually warm for this time of year in Edinburgh. We walked up the hill and took many pictures of the Edinburgh Castle. A super first day in our last city of our trip.

Our final days were spent in Edinburgh. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather. We explored castles, took 1000 pictures of Edinburgh architecture, including the castles and palaces and climbed Arthur's Seat, quite a feat for two older ladies!

One street we both loved was the crooked walking street, purported to be the model for J. K. Rowling's Dragon Alley.

A special dinner on our last night and then waiting in the airport to fly home. It was a wonderful trip. We wish the same for you on your next adventure!
